Who is the Albuquerque MQG?

We are a growing group of quilters of all ages and experience levels meeting monthly to explore the modern quilting aesthetic through education, show and tell, challenges, and charity projects.

In the ABQ chapter our explorations continue to respect the classic traditions of quilting.  Our members work to embrace the full spectrum of quilting styles.  While the MQG emphasizes modernism, the ABQ Chapter welcomes everyone.  The emphasis of the group is sharing, learning, and exploring the many facets of quilting with members at all skill levels.  We would love to have you join us.

We meet 6:30-8:30 pm on the 1st Tuesday of each month (excluding holidays) at the North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center located at 7521 Carmel Ave NE in Albuquerque.  Pop in at 6:00 for a little social time before the meeting.

May Meeting

Hi, everyone- our May ABQ MQG meeting will be on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, starting at 6:00, at the North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center.  Our program will be presented by Marjorie Childress, who is a local quilt collector. She will be showing some of the quilts that she has collected-should be a wonderful program.  Also be sure to bring your Block of the Month blocks, show and tell, and, if you made a block from last month’s block builder program, be sure to bring those, too.

We still have some spaces left in two of Victoria Findlay Wolfe’s classes and for the dinner.   Talk to Mandy Ruden on Tuesday if you haven’t already signed up!
Happy (modern) quilting,

Fiber Arts Scholarship

Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council Scholarship and Guild

Funding Opportunities

“It allowed me to grow as an artist by learning new skills,” said Abq

MQG member Afton Warrick about the three day class she took from

Betty Busby in Santa Fe in 2013.

Afton was a recipient of the Guild Member Scholarship for Workshops

and Classes provided by the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council. After

the class she created a wall hanging and she has incorporated

techniques she learned to make other projects since that time.

To fulfill her commitment to the AFAC for being awarded the

scholarship Afton did demonstrations at Thimbleweed Quilters and

Quilts Ole. She also has a tutorial on her blog:

reemay.html .

Have you been thinking about doing some skill building, research,

studying, attending a conference or taking part in private study with a

mentor in one of your fiber arts related interests? If so, then the

AFAC is waiting to hear from you by filling out an application, due

June 30, 2016, and letting them know how they can help you!

The categories of opportunities available are: New Mexico Resident

Scholarship in Fibers, Heritage Scholarship and Guild Member

Scholarship for Workshops and Classes as well as Guild Funding.

April Meeting

Hi, everyone- the April ABQ MQG meeting is on April 5 starting at 6:00 at the North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center.  The program is Block Builder- this is a fun, hands-on program presented by Mandy Ruden and me based on the Block Builder challenges in GenQ magazine.  Please bring pencils, colored pencils, markers- anything that you like to use to draw and color with!  Mandy will also show how to turn your drawn blocks into actual quilt blocks.   Remember to bring your block of the month for March to put up on the wall.  And don’t forget your show and tell.

We still have a few spaces left in the Victoria Findlay Wolfe classes for Double Wedding Ring (an improv twist on an old favorite) and the LeMoyne Star (Victoria jazzes up another classic pattern) and for the dinner. If you haven’t signed up yet, you can do it at the meeting on Tuesday. If you have signed up, thanks.  Please let you fellow quilters know about the classes and dinner-this is going to be a really great event. Victoria is a delightful person and teacher.
As a Board, our goal is to plan programs, teachers, swaps and challenges that our members are interested in and want to participate in. If you have ideas for programs, for a national teacher or teachers that you would like to have come to Albuquerque, or for fun quilt challenges or swaps, please share your ideas with Mandy Ruden, Catherine Silling, Claudia Reyes or me. If you would like to present a program, please talk to me.  I’m especially looking for hands-on programs and programs about different elements of modern quilting but I’m open to lots of ideas. Remember, this is your guild and we value your input!
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Colors of the Southwest and at our meeting on Tuesday.
Regards,
Lorraine Hollingsworth
